DID YOU KNOW?
Card Counting Strategy can be used not just for Blackjack but for Baccarat too.
How to Do Card Counting in Blackjack
Step #1: Know your High and Low Value Cards
There are actually many kinds of card counting systems, but the most famous one is called “Hi-Lo”.
In Hi-Lo Card Counting System:
- If card value is 2-6 = +1
- If card value is 7-9 = 0 (do nothing)
- If card value is 10-Ace = -1
Step #2: Keep Count Based on Values of Card already Dealt
The perfect term is “Running Count”, because you will be updating your tally or record everytime a card is dealt by the Dealer.
How to Count the Cards?
In this example, you have 3 players with 1 Dealer.
- Dealer has 6 Diamonds so +1
- Player has 2 of Hearts (+1) and Ace Clover (-1) = Total of Zero
- Player 2 has Jack of Hearts (-1) and 10 Clover (-1) = Total of -2
- Player has 3 has 7 Diamonds (0) and 3 Clover (+1) = Total of +1
- Total Running Count is 0 because
+1 (Dealer) +1 (Player 3) = +2
-2 (Player 2) = 0
0 + 0 (Player 1) = 0
0 Total Running Count
What does the Total Running Count Mean?
➜ If Running Count Increases, player has bigger chance of getting a Blackjack
➜ If Running Count Decreases, casino’s advantage or house edge increases
So you need to be fast and really good at math to be able to keep up. But don’t worry, with practice you can do it!
Step #3: For Blackjack Games with more than 1 Deck, Calculate for “True Count”
Both Traditional and Online Casinos don’t just use 1 deck of cards anymore, but multiple (up to 8!) because they don’t want to lose to players who do card counting.

Multiple Deck of Cards are Kept in a “Shoe”
There’s a different way to calculate for Total Running Count for multiple deck of cards vs. just 1 deck of cards.
If you have +5 running count with 6 decks remaining, that means there is less than 1 additional high card per deck remaining so player doesn’t have advantage of winning yet.
KEEP IN MIND
You have to look into how many high cards there are compared to low cards.

EXAMPLE #1:
Total Running Count = 10
Decks Remaining = 5
10 / 5 = True Count of 2
EXAMPLE #2:
Total Running Count = -6
Decks Remaining = 2
-7 / 2 = True Count of -3
Step #4: Adjust your Bets Depending on the Rise and Fall of your True Count
Now here’s the reason for why you need to count your cards and keep a track of Total Running Count and True Count.
When to Adjust Bet in Blackjack:
- If your True Count Rises, Increase your Bet Amount.
- If your True Count is Negative or Stay the Same, Bet Smaller Amount.
